I am Marlene Amado, a 3rd Generation NPCP Certified Pilates Teacher. I began practicing Pilates in 1998 to supplement my cycling hobby. Realizing the positive effects it had on my body, I decided to further my practice and after a brief introduction to STOTT Pilates, I became a certified Pilates Matwork teacher in 2002.
In 2008, after 5 years of teaching, attending workshops, and discovering my voice, I completed my Contemporary Pilates STOTT certification.
From 2014 to 2015, I completed 950 hours of Classical Pilates training in the Advanced Teacher Training program at The Pilates Center in Boulder, Colorado. In 2016 and 2017 respectively, I met and trained with Amy Taylor and Rachel Alpers who were both understudies of Romana Kryzanowska—a protege of Joseph Pilates.
Today, I have come to align my teaching towards Joseph Pilates Contrology style as presented by Jay Grimes and Sandy Shimoda of Vintage Pilates.
My background and experience includes working as a coach, presenter, and teacher in athletics. I’ve taught swimmers of all levels and coached amateur swimmers, triathletes, and presented workshops as a fitness instructor.
Pursuing my interest in women’s health, I began working in a physiotherapy clinic as a physiotherapy aid where I found Pilates to be a valuable tool in recovery and prevention. I have experience with a wide variety of conditions including pelvic floor dysfunction, osteoarthritis, back pain, herniated disc injuries, sports injuries, adhesive capsulitis and more.
In recent years, I have facilitated Pilates teacher training workshops. I personally have trained, helped brand and promote established and emerging teachers here in Vancouver, B.C.. I am also a certified Hypopressives teacher and a graduate of the University of British Columbia.
I founded Reform Pilates in 2016 with the idea in mind to create a culture that would continue the legacy of Joseph Pilates and also reflect the values of integrity, curiosity, community, and health. My studio space reflects the attention to detail inherent in the work and embraces the thoughtful and considered approach that I have adopted as a teacher over the last 22 years.
